Help us travel to a land far, far away as we delve into different versions of classic fairytales.
My students are an enthusiastic group of first graders at an International Baccalaureate public magnet school.
I have a diverse group of learners from advanced students to those with special needs. My school is a Title 1 school and many students struggle with poverty. All of my students love learning to read and they are very engaged by fairytales! As part of our IB curriculum, we teach literature that represents different perspectives and the students learn to formulate their own questions about what they are reading: two goals that will be met by this fairytale study!
My Project
The books requested will allow my first graders to take part in a literature study of fairytales. The students will read and listen to different versions of favorite fairytales. We will compare and contrast setting, character, and plot through these readings in conversation and in written responses to literature. We will also learn about where the tales originated and the lessons they are meant to teach. After being immersed in the genre, my students will plan and write their own fairytales. The composition books requested are specially formatted for the primary writer and are ideal for logging our book responses as we work through this unit.
Please bring a little magic into our classroom with your generous donation.
The books and composition books requested are fundamental to a very important literature unit. The books will allow us to add a whole new section to our classroom library, and they will be read and enjoyed for many years to come.
