My Students

Jackie Robinson once said, "A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives." This is what I would like my students to at least be thinking about, by the end of this year: Who are the people who have impacted the world, and where will I fit in? What do I have to offer?

I see 150 sixth graders daily, some more than once.

My school is located in an affluent neighborhood but we have students from all over our district who open enroll. Many of my students have a wealth and depth of empathy, that as of yet, remains untapped.

My Project

I am hoping that this movie will open my students' eyes as to what has gone in our country, and make them aware of what is currently going on in our world. I want them to understand the importance of basic civic "duties" like voting, as well as the importance of protecting basic civil rights for all people.

I will end with a quote as well, this one from Nelson Mandela: "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." I truly believe this...the more we seek to understand, the better off we are.
