My Kindergarten through 5th grade students have already jumped into using the LEGO materials in so many creative ways. One of our first projects was a collaborative \"Build, Design, Draw\" challenge, where student groups built a structure with LEGOs, observed it closely, and then sketched detailed drawings from different angles. It was incredible watching students negotiate ideas, test designs, and problem-solve together while also applying artistic concepts like perspective, shape, and form.\r\n\r\nThe moment the students first saw the bins of new LEGO bricks, the room filled with gasps and excited chatter. Many couldn't believe these were \"for art class!\" Several students immediately began imagining the bridges, towers, animals, and patterns they wanted to build. Their enthusiasm created the kind of joyful energy every teacher hopes for—students were eager, focused, and ready to create.\r\n\r\nWe've already begun integrating the LEGOs into ongoing lessons. Kindergarteners are experimenting with LEGO printmaking to explore texture. Third graders are building color-inspired mosaics to learn about warm and cool color families. Fourth graders have started planning 3D landmark models to connect art with engineering concepts. Our next steps include shifting from hands-on building to reflective artmaking: students will analyze their LEGO creations and transform them into drawings, paintings, or clay sculptures inspired by their structures.\r\n\r\nYour support has truly expanded what is possible in our art room. You've helped my students see themselves not just as artists, but as designers, engineers, and creative thinkers. Thank you for giving them the tools to build, imagine, and discover.","fullyFundedDate":1761848154368,"projectUrl":"project/in-art-legos-arent-just-toysthey-are/9716692/","projectTitle":"In Art, LEGOs Aren’t Just Toys—they Are Versatile Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ryan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9222897_orig.jpg?crop=519,519,x756,y645&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755108037648","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/heyeverybodyartclass"},{"teacherId":9222897,"projectId":9638493,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous donations, our students were able to dive deeply into their self-portrait project with high-quality art materials and how to books that supported their learning. These new texts introduced skills such as noticing artistic details, exploring character emotions, and understanding how illustrators use line, color, and composition to express identity. \r\n\r\nReading in our art classroom is active, engaged, and joyful. Students gather on the carpet, looking closely at pages while we discuss illustrations as works of art. We pause to predict, reflect, and compare artistic choices, helping students build vocabulary and visual-thinking strategies. \r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially shined with these new resources. Some of our quieter artists have become eager to raise their hands to share what they notice in the Amine illustrations. Others who sometimes struggle to get started on projects found inspiration in characters who express themselves boldly on the page. Watching students make these connections—seeing their own face in a mirror and feeling encouraged to draw their own—has been a beautiful reminder of how powerful these materials are. Thank you for making this meaningful learning possible for every child in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1758636547964,"projectUrl":"project/self-portrait-art-supplies-for-k-5th-gra/9638493/","projectTitle":"Self-Portrait Art Supplies for K-5th Grade Art","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ryan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9222897_orig.jpg?crop=519,519,x756,y645&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755108037648","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/heyeverybodyartclass"},{"teacherId":9222897,"projectId":9585344,"letterContent":"When the big box of supplies arrived, my students' faces lit up with excitement! They were thrilled to see the brand-new markers, crayons, and dry erase markers, and couldn't wait to put them to use. One of our first projects was creating inspirational lightbulbs—students filled them with colorful patterns and positive messages, made even brighter with the fresh supplies. The vibrant colors helped their ideas pop off the page and gave them a sense of pride in their work.\r\n\r\nWe've also used the dry erase markers during lessons on optical illusions, where students practice step-by-step designs on their whiteboards before committing them to paper. This has made the creative process less intimidating and much more fun.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for my students include using these supplies for self-portraits and Mondrian-inspired projects. With high-quality markers and crayons in their hands, they're able to explore line, shape, and color more fully—building both skill and confidence as young artists.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping our Kindergarten through 5th-grade artists shine.
