Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are unique, rambunctious individuals. They are hard-working, creative, and eager students. My students are in a low-income, poverty-stricken, minority school. Many of my students have very limited schooling in their own language and are now thrust into a formal school setting. Needless to say, many of my students do not have access to any form of technology at home and most of the time are unable to get the required school supplies.
For many of my students, our school is the most secure and safe environment they have.
We want to continue to encourage students to feel like school is a safe place away from the troubles of their daily lives. When students feel safe, they are able to achieve great things. Learning is difficult enough, however, with the encouragement of a safe environment they are able to prosper.
My Project
Each year I try my best to make sure that my students do not feel the economic disadvantage that our district faces in comparison to other nearby districts. As we approach the new school year, I have started to think of supplies that I know my students will need on a daily basis.
I make a list of basic school supplies such as paper, pencils, folders, markers, and highlighters that are needed on a daily basis and many of our students are unable to afford.
Paper is one supply that is very scarce in our district. We are often given little to no reams of paper and are forced to pay for paper ourselves.
Teachers are also limited with funds to even buy simple things are flash drives to save student projects and assignments. Everything on my list are necessities that keep our classroom running and puts our students on the path to success. Please help my students stay on this path by donating to our project.
