My students need a revolving bookstand to organize and hold book series and other genres, light filters to minimize glare and eye strain and a magnetic display shelf to showcase anchor texts from our units!
Picture the wonder and excitement brought forth from a library that displays a variety of books. Building upon student interest and offering rich, diverse literature is one of the greatest gifts our classrooms offer.
My incoming third-graders are knowledgable, inquisitive and creative learners.
Our school aims at fostering classroom communities in which students practice global-mindedness through a number of learner profiles such as being open-minded, caring and reflective. I am fortunate to have an assortment of books, in varying levels and genres, that aim to tell many different stories through varied perspectives. My hope is that the classroom library allows each student to experience the motivation to read, connect and an illuminate their imagination through the books they choose.
My Project
Having a revolving book stand allows my students easy access to our classroom library. The book stand can hold up to 200 books, with 30 display spaces in 3 different sizes, making book choices appealing and accessible. The book stand also offers students a chance to store picture books and chapter books by series, author and/or genre in an organized fashion. This will also serve as an aid in teaching and motivating my students how to maintain and take responsibility for storing books in our classroom library.
A magnetic display shelf can attach to our white board, which can hold anchor texts related to our unit of study.
Our classroom has fluorescent lighting; the tranquil blue and whisper white covers will reduce harsh glare, allowing for a more relaxed, calm environment for each student to feel comfortable in.
