My Students

My students are 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds living in the city of Pittsburgh. Almost all students are from low-income, economically disadvantaged households. Our school services only preschool students and aims to prepare students socially, emotionally, and academically for successful lifelong learning. Preschool students love to learn, and they learn best through play! Students explore math, language arts, science, social studies, creative expression, and physical education through a mix of teacher-led whole group experiences and individual explorations. Additionally, students are given breakfast, lunch, and rest time to nourish their bodies and recharge their minds.

My Project

My students need new farm and wild animals to enrich our block center play.

Students love to play with all sorts of animals, and this enhances their knowledge of the world around them.

Students make up stories using the animals, and love seeing their favorite animals in the block center. Students will often want to learn more about the animals they are playing with, so these toys can spur further learning outside of center time. Also, animal toys can be used in a variety of lessons, from language arts (showing a cow while learning letter C, for example) to math (counting all the animals of a certain color).
