My students need an interactive picture book, staplers for individual use, triangular shaped pencils, extra large Ziploc bags for books, craft supplies and other materials that help keep us organized.
My students are young, social, energetic, and diverse in every way. They are collectively unique in that they attend an all-day, every day kindergarten program. Each student comes from a varied household, residing with family that is doing their best. They often come to school hungry, insecure about their relationships outside of school, and unsure of their capabilities.
Each child is eager to share what they know, what they can do, and feel a part of our classroom family.
They love animals, they love food, they love to read, they love to talk, they love to play, they have come to love to write and share their thoughts. They love - or at least want to - love each other. They are independent, but want to be needed, heard and seen.
My Project
Organization is key to the beginning of any school year, but especially for kinders. Larger pencils, with a tri-shape will help them master a correct pencil grip and lanyards with badge slips will be used to identify students and their mode of transportation.
Other supplies will help students retain their individuality - such as skin color cardstock, various titles that help us learn about self-regulation, and additional lanyards used to show brag tags students will earn for various academic goals.
Being prepared for my students, as they first enter kindergarten, is key to their success. Additional items requested in this grant will assist in my preparation of each individual students' needs.
