My Students
I teach at a rural middle school in Mississippi and this will be my fourth-year teaching 7th grade English.
My students come from a range of social, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.
Many of my students come from lower-middle class families and receive free or reduced lunches based on socio-economic status. There is also a growing English Language Learner population in the community.
My students love using technology to complete assignments and as technology becomes more prevalent in our society I want to teach them to use technology more responsibly. We need these Kindles in order to gain access to online resources that are already available to us, digital texts that will supplement our resources and audiobooks that will allow me greater differentiation for students.
My Project
I would like five Kindle Fire Tablets to begin building a classroom set and eventually be able to provide tablets for each student in my classroom. We have access to Google Classroom and internet-based software that was bought for the English Language Arts department last year, but, with limited access to our school’s computer lab, it is difficult to use these resources effectively in the classroom on a daily basis. I also want to provide students with an increasing variety of digital and audio texts to supplement our print resources.
These Kindle Fire Tablets will help us take more advantage of the school's provided resources, give us ready access to online resources, digital texts, and audio books that will help support all learners.
With ready access to the Kindle Fire Tablets, students can begin to have access to resources already available to us without having to go to the computer lab, have a larger variety of digital and audio texts.
