Our school serves students in grades K-6 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. As a result, we are consistently one of the top-performing schools in our area every year. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and college, and have them career ready!
Students are encouraged to work collaboratively, think critically, analyze and synthesize information while completing project based learning assignments.
My students are thirty-one culturally diverse children with varying backgrounds, abilities and talents. They are students with individual needs and varied interests who come to school each day with the desire to learn and do their best. These children are always asking questions and approaching their work with confidence. It is a privilege to work with these aspiring scholars each day who demonstrate a growth mindset.
My Project
California 4th graders study the mission system in great depth. To culminate their learning on these historical landmarks, students work in small groups to design, create and build the 22nd mission in California with a focus on site location and design for the layout and buildings. This task requires critical thinking and creativity. While constructing their missions, students use spackle and paint.
This project requests art aprons and safety goggles in order for the students to protect their clothing and eyes while engaging in hands on learning.
This 22nd California Mission project is multi-curricular, including social studies, language arts, art, and even some mathematics.
Students must be able to explain and defend why and where this mission should be built and what its purpose should be. The students will then generate several QR codes to provide a virtual tour to their classmates, teacher and parents.
