Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My amazing students are my personal super heroes! Their ages range from three to seven and yet most of them have been through so much struggle at such a young age. From extended hospital stays since they were babies, to frequent visits to their doctors and various therapies, these children thrive and keep going. They come to school everyday with renewed spirit and smiles on their faces.
As the old African proverb goes "It takes a village to raise a child" I am hoping that I could be a part of that village that enhances their lives.
My Project
The yoga mats will give my students a comfortable surface for doing all the poses during our yoga class. This will mostly include animal poses which should be easy for children to visualize and imitate. The mats will also provide a safe boundary for relaxation and finding calmness so their minds can think clearly and be fully engaged in learning.
The animal bean bags will be used as a visual reference for breathing exercises, for example: "let your turtle rise up" (as they take a deep breath) and "let him slowly come back down" (as they slowly let their breath out or exhale).
Since most of the poses that we do involve animals, these bean bags will also serve as models for some poses.
