Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our Elementary School is located in Royal City, Grant County, in Washington state. Our area is a very rural, high-poverty agricultural area about thirty to forty miles from another town.
We serve approximately six hundred and fifty students in our school with demographics consisting of: 81% Hispanic, and 19% white.
46.1% of our students are Transitional Bilingual, while 7.8% are Migrant.
Our students are eager learners! They have a curiosity that is contagious and bring a wide-range of life experiences to their learning. Many of our students read and write in Spanish, which with definitely have a positive impact on their future!
My Project
Our early readers are excited to learn to read just like their older brothers and sisters! However, many of these students take books home from our library to Spanish only speaking and reading parents.
The books that we have selected are in Spanish and were especially selected to encourage the love of reading in these children.
Students will be able to check out these books from our school library and take them home to enjoy with their family. Students and parents alike will benefit from these colorful and light-hearted books. Oh, the places they will go in these colorful, rhyming, early readers!
