This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Reading should feel like an adventure for young learners. My students are beginning readers who benefit from engaging stories, playful language, and memorable characters that make them excited to open a book. Classic stories by Dr. Seuss are perfect for this purpose because they combine rhythm, humor, and imagination to help children develop a love of reading.

Through this project, I hope to build a classroom library collection featuring Dr. Seuss books and themed materials that will inspire students to explore reading independently.

Many of my students are still developing foundational literacy skills, and having colorful, accessible books available throughout the day encourages them to practice reading in a fun and low-pressure environment.

These books will be used during independent reading, literacy centers, and whole-group read-alouds. Dr. Seuss' stories are especially effective for practicing phonemic awareness, rhyming patterns, and vocabulary development, key building blocks for early readers.

In addition to the books themselves, Dr. Seuss characters and themed decorations will help create a welcoming reading corner that feels special and inviting. When students see beloved characters like the Cat in the Hat or Horton the Elephant, they are more likely to pick up a book and start reading.

This classroom library will support students in building confidence as readers while fostering imagination, creativity, and a lifelong love of books.
