In today's interconnected world, opportunities like this are essential in helping students grow into compassionate, informed global citizens.\r\n\r\nThrough the books you helped provide, students have immersed themselves in powerful stories connected to multicultural traditions. These stories helped students see the values and histories that shape these celebrations. The art-making process became a powerful bridge between learning and understanding. As students created, they reflected. As they reflected, they discussed. Our classroom conversations grew deeper and more thoughtful as we talked about the difference between appreciation and appropriation, and what it truly means to respect cultural boundaries.\r\n\r\nFor many students, this project provided both windows and mirrors — windows into cultures different from their own and mirrors that affirmed their personal identities and traditions. They began asking insightful questions, making meaningful connections, and celebrating differences with genuine curiosity and respect.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students are building more than academic knowledge. They are developing empathy, cultural awareness, and the confidence to engage thoughtfully with a diverse world. These are lessons that will extend far beyond fifth grade.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us create a classroom where diversity is celebrated, understanding is nurtured, and every culture is approached with respect.","fullyFundedDate":1769132453916,"projectUrl":"project/developing-cultural-empathy-through-art/9978477/","projectTitle":"Developing Cultural Empathy Through Art and Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Yvonne Hogan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2065573_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723594188530","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2065573"},{"teacherId":2065573,"projectId":10051082,"letterContent":"Because of you, our classroom has been filled with warmth in more ways than one this winter.\r\n\r\nYour support of our project, \"Help me in helping my students feel warmth on cold winter mornings,\" has made a meaningful difference in the daily lives of my fifth graders. Many of my students come from low-income households and face challenges that extend far beyond the classroom. Cold, snowy mornings can make attendance and readiness to learn even more difficult. But thanks to your kindness, those mornings now begin very differently.\r\n\r\nEach chilly day, students walk in knowing they will be welcomed with a warm cup of hot chocolate and, for those who need them, mittens and hats to keep them comfortable. What may seem simple has had a powerful impact. Instead of shivering and distracted, students are settling in calmly, smiling, and starting their day feeling cared for.\r\n\r\nThe hot chocolate station has become more than just a treat. Because the machine is designed with safety features that allow students to use it independently, they are building responsibility and confidence while preparing their own warm drink. It has created a small but meaningful routine that encourages independence and pride.\r\n\r\nThe mittens and hats have ensured that no child has to endure recess or morning arrival unprotected from the cold. Students who once tried to tuck cold hands into sleeves now have proper winter gear. That physical comfort translates directly into improved focus, participation, and overall mood in the classroom.\r\n\r\nWe have also seen a noticeable boost in morale and motivation on especially cold mornings. Students talk about coming to school for \"hot chocolate day,\" and that excitement helps drive attendance. More importantly, they feel supported, safe, and valued.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has reminded my students that there are people beyond our school walls who care deeply about their well-being and success. That message is powerful. It builds resilience, confidence, and a sense of belonging.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of my kind, hardworking, and determined fifth graders, thank you for helping us bring warmth, comfort, and encouragement into our classroom this winter.
