Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are adventurers who love to read, create and explore. They live in alow-income/high poverty school district. They do not get to experience the life experiences many of us see as "typical". I may not be able to change their home environment but I can certainly control their experience during the school day.

My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Each year for the past three years their community/families have endured major fire disaster which has caused them to feel uncertain about what their day will bring. Despite the many challenges they face, they know their teacher has a creative, engaging and safe environment awaiting them.

My Project

The Legos will allow my students to open their creative channels and go beyond what their wood blocks provide. The Insect Lore kit will give them the opportunity to be observant scientist. Most of my students are low level readers. I have several English Language Learners. By hearing the stories my students will be exposed to lots of new words that they haven't heard before. By knowing the words to the stories, they can begin to read the words on the paper. The CD player and book CD's will help all of my students become ready for reading. The Best-Buy listening center will as Dr. Seuss put it, "Oh the places you will go".

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

You will open the doors to new experiences that they have not had the opportunity to go through.
