This spring, students will be learning about ocean animals and exploring outdoor ocean-themed centers. This project will provide students with new pictures books for students to learn about ocean animals such as sharks, dolphins and sea turtles as well as marine life. Then students will be able to track these animals in real life with the Fahlo Animal Tracking Kits. Finally, students will engage in outdoor water play with aquatic robots and play and mold sand.
I believe that outdoor ocean-themed STEAM learning is a great way to integrate literacy and STEM while providing fun, engaging outdoor activities during the beautiful spring weather.
This project will also provide new picture books for students to learn about the animals they will track as well as ocean habitats where their animal lives. Students will also learn about how our choices here in Wisconsin can impact the oceans and marine animals.
Each Fahlo Animal Tracking Kit will provide a code for a real animal that we can track as a class. Moreover, purchasing multiple kits for each animal will allow students to track multiple animals of the same species. Students will learn about where the animal has traveled and be able to track the animal using an interactive map. Each kit also provides information about the animal including the animal's photo, name, and size. I believe this will be a great way to extend students' learning while using technology to learn about real animals as they travel the ocean.
This project also provides students with Robo Alive water activated robots. Students will be able to go outside and play with their marine animal robots in bins of water and sand. Play and Mold Sand will allow students to create and mold enviroments for their robot animals to explore.
