Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Students at my school come from neighborhoods all over Oakland, California and from families that all want an enriched education for their children. Some students have faced much adversity and most consider school to be a second home where they can feel comfortable, safe, happy and part of an overall community that cares for them. My students are excited to come to school each day and very eager to learn! Our school is small, under two hundred and eighty students total, and my kindergarteners work with peers at their age level and upper grades daily.

My Project

We have been lucky enough to receive tablets for our classroom. We have a variety of headphones given from different sources, but would really like one class set that are all the same and are kid friendly. Tablets are used daily in small group instruction and to keep students engaged in what they are learning, headphones are a must! In a combination classroom with both kindergartners and first graders, differentiation and small group instruction is a necessity. In order to focus on their own work, headphones help students zone out all background noise and really pay attention to their reading and math.
