Our K-8 school is located in the heart of South Brooklyn. My 8th graders come from many different backgrounds and experiences. Many were not born in this country and for them, English is not their native language. As a result, they struggle with the vast text content that they encounter throughout the day both in reading and writing and other subjects as well. To help them and the rest of the students by providing rigorous academics through working with Teacher's College, fantastic teachers and staff and a safe learning environment. We teach character development through Leader in Me and the 7 habits as well as offer arts, music and after-school clubs to meet the needs of our students. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school, college and beyond.
My Project
My 8th graders will be studying a unit on classic literature and we would like to incorporate a classic Shakespearean work into our unit. What better play than Romeo and Juliet? We will be reading this books in class and both acting out scenes as well as analyzing quotes and incorporating this into our essay writing.
What's in a name?
Well without your help, these students may never know! But with your help, my students will be able to study this classic play in a easy to read format as well as in graphic novel form for English Language Learners and to help support students with special needs. This is one of the most important stories ever written and one that should be shared with the next generation of readers and writers. Please help bring Shakespeare into our classroom.
