Nutritional Support for Families in Temporary Housing

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our students are truly one of a kind here! The atmosphere we have built at our school is one where our scholars are able to build relationships with staff who at times may be the only constant in their lives. They are outgoing, always willing to help us with tasks such as events, bulletin boards, setting up classrooms, etc. We are now in year six with an even greater student body population from the last five years. Regardless, all of us show up for our kids day in and day out. Ask any staff member here and it will be very easy to see why we love our kids!

My Project

Our kids and their families who are in temporary housing continue to struggle during the pandemic. A percentage of our families are in shelters or doubled up with neighbors, friends, or other family members. These nutritional snacks will provide the ability to have a hearty breakfast as well as snacks throughout the day which are essential for learning. Our school provided financial assistance to the families for the Thanksgiving holiday so this will be a continued effort in supporting our scholars. As we continue to adapt during this challenging time, it's essential for us to provide as much support as possible.
