My students need Farm Animal Number Sequencing puzzles, counting skills games and interactive software to practice counting with one-to-one correspondence.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Go down deep enough into anything and you will find mathematics."
-Deon Schlicter
Children's early experiences with numeracy will effect their math skills for years to come.
We are a small school district that borders Detroit.
We have a large population of students that are living in poverty. I teach in a special education resource room for students in kindergarten through third grade. My students are performing below grade level and require extensive interventions to improve their numeracy skills.
My Project
My students need Farm Animal Number Sequencing puzzles, counting skills games and interactive software to practice counting with one-to-one correspondence. Children need many opportunities for active learning. The items that I am asking for will allow children to manipulate, explore and experiment with math concepts. The Number Sense Magic Caterpillar and Counting is a Snap activities will allow the students to see numbers in different ways (counting dots, tally marks, ten frames, etc..) Students need to experience counting in real and different contexts to learn counting and one-to-one correspondence effectively. The materials that I am asking for will allow children to explore math independently as well as collaboratively with their peers.
My students need to develop a rich understanding of numeracy now so that in the future they will be able to solve problems and make sense of time, numbers and patterns.
The materials that I am asking for will enrich my classroom and promote student engagement.
