Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach pre-kindergarten at a small, neighborhood school in Central Florida. Our school is a Title I school and the majority of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. We are growing our pre-k program and will be starting our second year.
The majority of our students start pre-k speaking only Spanish and need an authentic experience to foster a love of learning and an introduction to vocabulary in these subject areas.
Our students are like little sponges as they are ready and willing to participate in these new activities!
My Project
One of the main focuses in pre-kindergarten is for students to learn all the letters and sounds of the alphabet throughout the year. This is the beginning stage of reading and writing for these children!
In order to keep young children excited and eager to learn, we need a variety of alphabet activities to engage my pre-k students throughout the year!
It is equally important to integrate these fun and engaging activities throughout the classroom. Alphabet books will be added to the library, magnetic letters to the ABC center and light table letters to our Light Table center!
The best way to teach pre-kindergarten students the alphabet is through play and these materials will allow our students to learn this way!
