Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I don't want students just sitting using pen, pencil and paper. That's not the world they live in.

My students are talkative, creative, and curious.

They enjoy activities during which it doesn't seem like I'm trying to teach them something (although I am) such as drawing a veggie or fruit as a superhero and sharing its superpower with 4 people and then drawing the hero's nemesis and sharing again, or having teams of students build a 30-centimeter tower out of link cubes that will support the weight of a basketball.

Many of my students have difficultly sitting still and quietly for an extended period of time in a "normal" classroom environment. They also live in a low income area, and some of them don't have many toys or books. A few don't even have crayons and paper at home. Despite these challenges, my students are eager and excited to learn!

My Project

These materials will help me deliver remote instruction more effectively. The condenser microphone will allow my students to hear me clearly. I believe this will be important as we will be starting the school year remotely and it will be important in helping me foster a class community in a virtual space. The standing desk will help me easily and quickly raise my laptop (and built in camera) so I can more effectively deliver content in front of a green screen image (like a TV meteorologist). I can also encourage my students take an active 'brain break' by modeling an out of chair movement activity.
