My Students

Teaching in a high-poverty district has quite a few challenges. From large class sizes to not having enough classroom materials for everyone, the students face many obstacles. It is my job to ensure that they don't feel the impact of being in a low-income district. That can sometimes be a hard task.

Above it all, my kiddos strive to do their best and are the entire reason I am passionate about teaching.

Without their positive energy every single day, I would find it difficult to do what I do. They make it all possible. I want to give back to them and make sure they have above the very basics of a classroom. I want them to be able to have luxuries other districts may have. I want to keep their positive spirit alive and ensure they love coming to school, keep learning, and keep growing as individuals. It is hard to do this as one person, but as a community of giving and thoughtful individuals who want to invest in the education of our kids, it is an easier task.

My Project

My students have time to read in class almost every day. They enjoy reading, but it can be a struggle to get the books they want at a low cost. They want to read books that are modern.

We need these new novels because starting off the year with high-interest books is the key to having avid readers all year long!

I have received brand new novels from the gracious donors of and it is amazing how much new books change the classroom environment. They are so excited to read the books and when the new ones are checked out they are so bummed and can't wait until they're checked back in so they get a chance to read them! I would absolutely love to keep this love and excitement for reading alive in my classroom!

Students become better learners overall when they keep reading. Their test scores improve, they focus more in class, and they are eager to keep reading. It is an amazing thing to see and with access to these books, I know they will want to read not just inside the classroom, but at home as well.
