This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Textbooks. They're so boring. No one actually enjoys picking one up and learning from it. So why not learn from a book that has one many awards, including the Coretta Scott King Award? This book will allow the students to learn about history in a more exciting way!

My students live in a poverty stricken neighborhood in Maryland.

The library is 2 bus rides away. Therefore the most exposure that my students get to literature is from in the classroom. This means that it's of the utmost importance that I expose them to many different types of genres. The novel that I have selected is non-fiction. It is a high interest story because it is about baseball and includes very detailed pictures.

My Project

This novel will allow my students to learn about a time in history in which they only have a small bit of information. The novel, which is non-fiction, presents the information about the Negro Leagues in a student friendly format. It allows the students to feel engrossed in the book by writing as if the reader is actually a part of history. This is something that no textbook can do.

When reading this novel, my students will learn about many different themes that can be applied to their everyday lives, such as bullying, segregation, and treating everyone fairly.

These are life lessons that my students need to learn.
