Novel Study and Book Clubs in Spanish

My Students

My students are middle schoolers and are searching for books that they will enjoy reading. My students in the Dual Immersion classes have various levels of Spanish, some coming from native backgrounds, and some are learning Spanish as a second language. My students are the only 6th graders in the district that are enrolled in the Dual Immersion program, so they are energetic and ready to read books in Spanish!

They love reading books that are of interest to them!

My Project

My dual immersion students love to read. We read novels together as a class, and having one copy per student would make a world of a difference! Students benefit from having their own copy in their hands so that they can easily find new words, work on comprehension skills by using sticky notes, and read together in smaller groups. Additionally, having other options of books that students can read in groups is helpful for things like differentiating reading levels, group book clubs, and more! After a over a year of remote learning, I'm excited to give students the opportunity to hold a book in their hand instead of using the screens!
