My students need class sets of books that will spark their interest. By having their own book to use during novel studies, students may work at their own pace and ultimately promote reading skills.
My elementary school is a very special place for all students and teachers! It is a wonderful place to work, grow, and learn. The teachers here go above and beyond to make this a very inviting place for students. We have high academic expectations for our students, and we believe this should be a place for all students to feel safe and accepted.
Despite any problems they may face, my students are amazing and always have a positive attitude at school!
I teach at a Title I school where most of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Many of my students lack text support at home, and due to budget cuts we are no longer able to sent reading textbooks home. This does not stop my students from working hard to achieve growth and knowledge. These students continue to fight through all obstacles thrown at them, and it is my hope to help them fall in love with reading by using books that they are interested in!
My Project
The funding of these books will promote student learning tremendously! I have chosen books based on student interests. Studies prove that reading comprehension is boosted when students are interested in the subject they are reading about. I also picked books that students would not normally think about reading- historical fiction and nonfiction. By reading stories from these genres, students will be exposed to higher order thinking and real life events.
By having a copy of a book for each student we will be able to practice a plethora of skills that help students become successful readers.
Students will work at their own pace when they have their own copy of the book. It will also make it easier to work with small groups to master reading skills.
