My students need class sets of engaging novels. Stories give their lives enrichment, a blueprint for living, schema for learning, and a shared experience for discussion and vocabulary development.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is in the middle of a metropolis. Garland ISD has a population of over 57,000 students. This project will benefit all 154 students in our school's fourth grade. Our school population is made up of children of diverse cultures. This school's unique individuals share a richness of experience and culture. A large majority of our students are English language learners. Many of our students are considered "at risk" for not graduating. Most of our students are on free or reduced lunch.
The majority of our students come from busy households and do not often have the opportunity to leave their neighborhoods.
As their teachers, it is incumbent upon us to provide opportunities for our students to be involved in a range of experiences to provide background knowledge for their comprehension and vocabulary development.
My Project
There is nothing more inspirational or satisfying than looking around a classroom and seeing the bright eyes of children who are connecting with a story, laughing aloud, or tearing up because the character’s experiences so move them. A classroom read aloud brings classroom unity in a way that no other activity does. When we read a novel together, we are sharing and experiencing new worlds. Stories give their lives enrichment, a blueprint for living, schema for learning, and a shared experience for discussion and vocabulary development.
These novels are specifically chosen to be high-interest and part of a series to spark a longer interest in reading.
These novels will add relevancy and engagement to their reading experiences.
A classroom read aloud brings classroom unity in a way that no other activity does. Developing a connection with reading and a love of reading is the best way to ensure that our students become lifelong lovers of learning.
