This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from the largest school district in the state of Connecticut.

We are also one of the largest schools in our district.

Most of my students live below the poverty line, in environments that are not conducive to learning, and sometimes in circumstances, we couldn't imagine. Even with these things going on around them, they make it to school every day and have an insatiable love of learning. The smiles on their faces as they walk through my classroom door every morning is truly what makes me come back each day.

My Project

Getting my students to read for pleasure is a daily struggle. With the competition from video games and mobile apps, it is frequently very hard to convince a child to sit down and enjoy a good book. The books I am requesting to combine great story-telling and funny comics. I am hoping that with the combination of these two devices I can entice my students in to reading more and cultivate the love of literacy I have in them.

My project is important because it will help open my students up to a whole new world of literature that they have been avoiding.

Through this, they can build their imagination as well as their love for literacy.
