This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My scholars are amazing! They came in to start the new school year eager and ready to learn. The first question they asked was, "Which chapter books are we reading first?" Their excitement and enthusiasm was contagious. I couldn't wait to get the year started.
We are busy getting our class organized and setting up classroom procedures, but we cannot wait to select our first chapter book.
Everyone is researching titles and giving their thoughts on why their book should be the one we read. We all cannot wait to start reading!
My Project
The novels "Ashes" and "Forge" will be the beginning of our novel studies in literacy. We explore the history of Valley Forge and the challenges of fighting the Revolutionary War. We will explore the history of 1777 Pennsylvania.
The novel studies will allow the students to create matchbook chapter summaries.
This is a style of book report that the kids are eager to start to create. Using their own voice, they will be able to retell both novels. These novels will improve their background in historical fiction which they will be able to connect to our daily reading studies. We are ready to read!
