My students come from an inner-city background. They are surrounded by poverty, drugs, and violence every day of their lives. Yet they come to school every day eager to learn and excited for new adventures. Our school has about 600 students. It is an adventure each day. We never know what is in store for us when we enter the building. The students are bright, wonderful children who just happen to come from challenged backgrounds. Having said that, my class is a group of children who love to work together. They are a group of children who love to read. They are hungry to see what else is out there in the world. Books allow them to do that. Books allow them to dream. Books open up a world that is new and exciting to explore.
