My students need 30 books of the novel From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler and a guide to develop their comprehension and higher level thinking skills.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My second grade classroom is filled with classroom books, lively students and an interactive Smart Board. My goal is to have 100% of my students on grade level for reading and math. It's a difficult task but I am willing to provide support, guidance, and teachable moments whenever possible.
My school is in a low socioeconomic area with many eager students to learn and dedicated teachers.
We see many students go through many hardships in their home life all before they enter third grade. Many come from families with parents in jail and their grandparents are raising them. The teachers are here because we love teaching and we want to offer guidance, education, and a future for these young, vibrant students.
My Project
My students will use the novel From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler during Intervention to further develop their comprehension, higher order thinking skills and their love of reading. We will read and dissect the novel by understanding the characters, the plot development, and the literary elements of the story. They will have book talks, journal writing, make predictions, and comprehension questions based on the novel. The students will write a book report and present it to the class. We are looking forward to reading this novel!
This donation will improve my classroom because it will help develop their love of reading and have them exposed to a novel they might never choose on their own.
It will change their lives because they will be given an opportunity to discuss a higher level novel in second grade.
