Nourishing Bright Environments

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

A classroom is an environment that should be bright and welcoming, and include items that support learning.

Thus, the resources that I am requesting, such as LED lights, a refrigerator for water and snacks, a coffee pot for hot chocolate and tea, and comfortable seating are meant to create this type of environment.

Social and emotional learning in my classroom includes spaces for learning, as well as snacks for my students who sometimes come to school hungry. Providing a fridge for water and perishable snacks is one way that I want to let students know that I care about them. Also, a fridge, coffee pot/station and seating are part of executive offices that also promote SEL, so I hope to model their future workplaces. I want my students to know that these items are provide in college and career settings that support their well-being, and a great way for them to begin to expect this type of care in in a classroom setting that I am creating.
