This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Nourish to Flourish – Student Snack Supply Project is an initiative designed to provide nutritious snacks to students who may experience food insecurity during the school day. As I enter my second year with Newlin, I am reminding of my previous year's kindergartners who's parents could not afford to send them to school with a snack to help them get through the day. Many students struggle to stay focused and engaged in class because they do not have consistent access to food between meals. This project aims to bridge that gap by ensuring that students have access to free snacks that support their physical well-being and academic success.

The project will establish a reliable snack distribution system within the classroom with the help of donors.

Nutritious grab-and-go snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, crackers, trail mix, and bottled water will be made available to my little learners during designated times to fuel their bodies to continue learning.

By reducing hunger-related barriers to learning, the project seeks to improve student concentration, attendance, classroom participation, and overall wellness. In addition, the initiative promotes a supportive and inclusive school environment where students can access basic nutritional needs without stigma.

The long-term goal of the project is to create a sustainable snack pantry that positively impacts student health and academic performance while eliminating financial strain on parents to provide food for their children during the school day.
