Our students come from a once thriving coal-mining community that has been devastated by the loss of income and industry. With over 82% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches, these children are in great need of a high-quality education. Education and shared resources will be their ticket out of poverty.
We have a problem- our volleyball team is in great need of equipment to help them improve their skills and keep fit throughout the school year.
Our school is located in one of the most beautiful regions of the United States. Our school has struggled with nearly-crippling budget cuts and teacher shortages, and this fact leaves us with difficult choices to make when deciding how to spend money.
My Project
We have a very small school. Our gym is in use by different groups every evening, every single day. Our volleyball team would like to be able to practice volleyball skills outside of the school gym. We have a very nice little area with basketball courts but there is nothing for the non-basketball people to do there. There is plenty of open space for us to add a couple of volleyball game areas. All we need are nets and volleyballs!
Our volleyball team would have the opportunity daily to practice their skills if only they had the materials they need.
Our girls would like to use their evening break time to play volleyball while others (both boys and girls) are practicing their basketball skills. They would also like to use the outdoor practice area during times when the gym is occupied. We have volunteers who would be willing to mount posts for the nets. We just need some study, weather nets and outdoor balls to make their wish come true.
