This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

If you had the chance to reenact any book of your choosing, what would it be? This class set of The Hunger Games will enable my seventh graders to dive into the world of Panem in a novel study unlike they have ever experienced before. We won't just be reading together; we will be building our very own Ram Games together.

My students will engage in daily activities to build up their District, from writing short essays to designing their chariot costumes, culminating in a quiz-bowl style elimination game where they must battle it out to see who is the true winner of the Ram Games.

Questions will be hidden around a classroom, and they must search the room and themselves to find the answers to the challenge. Their prior work in building up their Districts will have earned them points towards sponsors and other unique perks to protect them from "sudden death" in the final elimination game.

Engaged learning comes from authentic learning experiences, which is what I hope to build with this modified approach to a novel study. We will have almost a month of instructional time left after the STAAR this year, and I want that time to be meaningful and exciting for my students. A class set of 35 books will ensure that I have enough books for each class as well as emergency replacements for multiple years to come.
