NOT Fake News! Camera Kits Needed to Cover School Events!
Help me give my students another Canon camera kit. I have 6 camera kits that are shared between 45 students. Often times, a student will look to sign out a camera kit, but there are none available!
My students are 14-18 year olds from multi-cultural backgrounds who are learning in a high poverty school district. They are comprised of all different ethnicities such as Black, White, Latino, Asian, and Middle Eastern.
My students are taking my elective course called Multimedia to learn about video production, video editing, and communications.
Each year, I have students who go on to college and major in film studies, communications, and video production. My students maintain a YouTube channel that displays some of their projects, which is called DPHS Multimedia.
My students are special because they are the news crew for our school. They take this role very seriously. They film all sorts of school events such as sports, plays, concerts, musicals, etc. They also film feature pieces where they often interview both students and faculty about school related topics. They learn to become very independent when they are out on a shoot and have no one to rely on but themselves. By having to write out questions for their interviews and then actually interviewing adults, they learn great written and oral communicatios skills. At first they are always really nervous to interview people, but then they get used to it!
My Project
My students learn video production and cover school events. They are the news crew for the school. After learning filming tecniques, video editing, and how to conduct interviews, my students film school events such as sports, plays, musicals, concerts, etc. They also do feature pieces where they interview faculty and students. Their videos are then shared through our school network for teachers to play in their classrooms, and some of the students' pieces go up on our YouTube channel called DPHS Multimedia.
All 45 students share just 6 camera kits, so they could always use more camera kits because there are often none available when students seek to sign out a kit.
