My Students

Do you remember what it was like to read a boring book? The NOOK brings a "cool" feature to reading!! My students love to read every day. They also are so excited about using technology.

My classroom is comprised of 22 second grade students who truly love school and reading.

They are hard working students who amaze me every day with their questions and abilities. I know having these NOOKS in the classroom will be their favorite activity of the day.

My Project

As a former student, I remember the struggles that I had when asked to read a story or a book. Reading requires motivation and part of that is the excitement to jump into a story. With the addition of the NOOK, this will motivate my students to want to learn how to use the NOOK and read stories off of the NOOK. Also the NOOK has a wonderful "read aloud" feature that will assist children who comprehend by listening to an audio books. Each student reads and comprehends at their own pace. In my classroom, we do Daily Five along with our Guided Reading program. NOOKS will allow my students to gain independence while building stamina and become strong readers.

I know having NOOKS in my classroom will enable my students to have a love of reading while using the technology they need as 21st century learners.

It will also enable them to hear how fluent readers sound and encourage them to read with prosody.
