This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a very unique group of students. Coming from a variety of backgrounds and languages, my students have all been identified as gifted. We work above grade level in most subjects and they challenge me every day to find new and exciting things to learn. My students spend three years together as a cohort in our school, so they are a little family by the time they get to my 6th grade classroom.

My students need a challenge.

They need to be introduced to new things and new ways of thinking. They consume new information and new books all the time. These are great things for a teacher but sometimes the resources just aren't there for me to reach their needs. And while they come from a variety of backgrounds, getting the experience in the world they crave isn't always easy.

My Project

Throughout the course of our school year, my students learn about ancient civilizations, history, and governments. While we have great textbooks and resources, my students love to be able to focus on certain events and people as they learn about them.

My students are avid readers and consume books like candy!

The set of Wicked History and Who Was books will give them a boost they have been actually begging for lately! The ones we have in our classroom cannot stay on the shelf for long because they reach kids so well with their information. I looked for a variety from two different sets to help reach different levels of readers, as well as different topics.
