Mrs. Fernandez from Greenville SC is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Nonfiction Books for our Fourth Graders!

Help me give my students nonfiction books, so they can learn about the world as they become lifelong readers.

My Students

My students need to have access to literature of different genres and text difficulty. They are voracious readers who love to read all genres of literature!

"Books are a uniquely portable magic," are the wise words of Stephen King

Most of my students are Spanish speakers who are learning a second language. Many have not had the opportunity to read brand new nonfiction books.

We set academic goals in each content area and aim not only to achieve, but to surpass these goals. This is not always easy in a lower income neighborhood, where the stress of the outside world can permeate into the classroom environment. Even though 100% of students in my school receive free lunch, poverty is not an obstacle that gets in their way. They aim for the highest standards of achievement! Their motivation, focus and drive is inspiring!

My Project

This DonorsChoose project on nonfiction books will help our fourth grade students learn about world history and inspiring people from all over the world. It will help our students learn and practice research skills. As they read the nonfiction books, they will get to practice using text features which will improve their comprehension skills. The books will also help create lifelong readers, impact their speaking and listening skills, and further develop reading comprehension skills. Our fourth graders will become lifelong learners as we continue to address equity and diversity in our classroom. I can't wait to give my students this opportunity!
