My Project

This collection of nonfiction lit circle books will allow students to choose a relevant topic related to their lives or give them a new perspective or piece of our history and culture to learn about. They will read their chosen book with their lit circle group and become experts on that topic. These topics range from the environmental impacts of the clothing industry, the true story of two teens in Oakland, and the Tulsa massacre to an epic telling of indigenous wisdom.

This Lit Circle Collection Unit will culminate in each group becoming an expert on their topic and then teaching the rest of the class what they learned, what they found was important, and how it related to their lives.

Lit Circle Units not only give students a choice in what they read, giving them autonomy in directing their learning but also help kids engage fully in the curriculum. They will also allow each group to come together, share what they learned with the rest of the class, and show off what experts on their topic they have become.
