My Project

All of our students are required to read non-fiction books in order to write animal reports. It's difficult to find non-fiction books at just the right level. So many non-fiction books have text that is too difficult to read for many of our readers who read at a lower level.

These non-fiction animal books are beautifully photographed and look interesting while appealing to our 1st-grade readers.

They are also just the right level! The books capture animals living in their natural environment and support our readers just where they are! They also have great diagrams and labels as well which help reinforce our science units.

I have many books at higher levels, but not at the level of my lower-level students. We're not only expected to teach children to read for themselves but also write informational text pieces that would include an introduction, 3 facts, and a conclusion. I'm excited to put new non-fiction readers on the shelves that showcase readers at all levels! Our kiddos will then read and write scientific animal reports and present them to the class. They will include scientific illustrations while labeling the parts of their animals.
