Noise Canceling Headphones to Promote Focus and Concentration in Art!
My students need Active Noise Canceling headphones to wear while they are working on their art projects in my classroom to help them block out the loud noises made by their peers.
My school is a Title 1 school located in a rural section of Pasco County, Florida. A large portion of our population qualifies for free and reduced lunch. We have a low socioeconomic population. The target population for this grant proposal is my third through fifth grade special education (ESE) students. My special education students work so very hard to do the best work they can and to be the best person they can be! I want to give them every tool at their disposal to help the achieve success! My students with special needs function best in small group environments, and I do have space throughout my classroom where individual students may work together or at solitary desks. My class sizes are lager this year with smaller classes at 22 students and larger classes up to 35 students. A set of ten noise-canceling headphones can help my special learners function better in my classroom and help them focus on the complex tasks I facilitate to them.
My Project
My classroom can be a loud place making it difficult for some students to hear directions or to focus on the tasks they must complete. In loud settings, students are more prone to daydream, and their engagement in class drifts from active engagement to passive. Passive students fall behind in their educational tasks than their peers. This, in turn, affects students’ motivation to complete assignments. Students with active engagement are more highly motivated to complete their work than students with passive engagement. Noise canceling headphones have been used in the past with students suffering from ADHD. This form of assistive technology drowns out the loud noise in their environment and allows them to work in a quiet, peaceful environment. In this proposal, I am asking for ten noise-canceling headphones so I can accommodate most students at one time.
I want all my students to be engaged in the tasks I set before them.
I especially want my students with special needs to have the necessary assistive technologies available to meet their needs. This year I have a lot of special education students who require more support and care. I want all my students to have access to the best support system for them. Since my new students will be mainstreamed in with basic education students, I want to make sure that I have the assistive technology that they will need to be successful in art. The set of noise-canceling headphones can assist all my students who struggle with focus and concentration, especially my students with special needs. My classroom can get very loud due to the number of students in a class, making it difficult to hear or concentrate. I believe noise-canceling headphones can help.
