This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a public, Title I school which serves prekindergarten through eighth-grade students. My co-teacher and I share two classes with one another. I teach both classes Reading and Social Studies while she teaches both classes Math and Science.
For the past several years, we have taught many students with exceptionalities, which makes teaching so much more rewarding, in my opinion.
I love that my students come to school with so many different backgrounds and varying abilities, yet they are still so eager to learn.
I began my career as a teacher thinking and believing that I would make a difference in the lives of my students, but I have found out that they make a difference in mine. When I do come across a challenge, I think of my students and their unwavering tenacity for learning and overcoming life's many obstacles.
My Project
I would like to have an effective teacher-led learning center for small group instruction, and interventions in Reading and Writing. I will need a dry-erase board to model tasks on. Because the easel is on wheels, I will also be able to use it in multiple areas of the classroom with just a gentle push, and move it out of the way, when it's not in use.
Students will have so much fun practicing tasks on removable, dry-erase circles!
Plus, we can save time because there will no longer be a need for passing out materials. Students will have a visual to stay in their own spaces, which will lead to less arguments. Dry-Erase also means using less paper, which saves trees!
Magnetic erasers and markers will help me keep materials neat and organized.
