Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

It is a truth universally acknowledged that teenagers are cranky when hungry. Furthermore, hangry teens can’t learn effectively!

In my classroom, the ultimate goal is to create a safe, welcoming learning environment where my students can achieve.

When students are hungry, they aren’t going to be able to learn properly. In a Title I District, most of my students are coming to school hungry.

To combat this, I have a “Take What You Need” cart in my classroom, filled with hygiene supplies and snacks/water. Last year, it was used almost daily! I am still mostly set on hygiene items, but the snacks go quickly. (Plus, you have to worry about expiration dates!)

I try to find a variety of snacks that students will enjoy while still giving them the fuel they need to achieve greatness. My students love this cart! They even tell their friends—I had students from other classes who were hungry and came to me for help.

This isn’t something to bribe students with, but a legitimate need I am hoping to fill. The products chosen are meant to fill the gap between their hunger and their learning, and I hope that your support will allow me to facilitate this for my students.

I love teaching my high schoolers, but I can’t do this on my own. Thank you for your time, consideration, and support! It means the world to my students and to me.
