Help me give my students a space and supplies to create “First Day” bags for delivery to our Chemobuddies.

My Project

It seems that everyone knows someone who has cancer. Most adults feel helpless when they get news that a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer. The patients often feel like a burden asking family members to attend their hours-long chemotherapy treatments. It all can seem like an overwhelming situation, until there's hope.

Student ChemoBuddies is a way for our students to support those undergoing cancer treatments in our community.Students decorate gift bags and other items for patients, as well as make custom treat bags.

As adults in a young person's life, we can help develop leadership, and stress the importance of giving back to our community.

By helping ChemoBuddies, the students can take ownership in our community, and be proactive to make it a better place. Student Buddies can offer hope, even through small actions (that aren't really so "small") to patients.

Student Buddies at our school are:

* Students who want to give back

* Students eager to become a leader in their community

* Students participating in classroom service learning

We would love to have a space to provide “First Day” bags for ChemoBuddies. This would provide a place for all of our materials to be stored and a place for students working on this project to be comfortable.

Materials would include paper bags along with markers and crayons that the students would decorate with an encouraging message to these first-time chemotherapy patients getting into the recliner for treatment may need.

Each bag would include a "kindness rock" decorated by a student with a positive message or quote for the patient and candy to take home with them after therapy that day.

This project is so important to both myself and my students.
