Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at an amazing elementary school in Boston, Massachusetts. My students come from all over the city, but every day they walk in the school ready to learn. We are an inclusion classroom. This means that we include everyone. We are an open, welcoming classroom. My students are wicked dedicated to learning.

My students are leaders.

They are the fifth-grade students in a kindergarten-fifth grade school. They take on this role with pride. They know that they not only come to school to learn, but come to school to lead. Throughout the day, we think deeply about an author's purpose, question the actions of history, contemplate the solution to a mathematical problem, and critically cite our thinking through writing. My Project

5th grade is when students dip their toes into middle school life. The freedoms of middle school also come with responsibilities. It can sometimes be hard for students to completely block out the noises and distractions around them. This is why I want to provide noise cancelling headphones to my students.

When my students can block out the sounds around them they are able to focus on their independent work.

We all know that sometimes it is hard to focus on a challenging task in front of us. Part of my job as a 5th grade teacher is pushing my students to be their best and reach their potential, this involves tackling challenging questions. Noise canceling headphones enable my students to zone in on their own work and grapple with the problems in front of them. This way they can focus on their academic problems, not other students personal problems! Developing independent learning skills prepares my students for the real world!
