My students need Common Core math learning centers, a place value kit, a magnetic clock and other manipulatives to provide them with an interactive and engaging math experience!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Each day I am greeted by a lively bunch of students. And for many of them, it's a facade to escape the poverty stricken neighborhood that they come from. Coming to school each day is often an escape from their reality. Not only do they come from homes facing economic issues, many of my students are also low academically. My students are a part of the Innovation Zone, which is comprised of schools performing in the bottom 5% in the state! My students come to me eager to learn, but many time are kept from achieving due to a lack of materials, resources and funding available to them.
My Project
Worksheets! Worksheets! and more...yes you guessed it...WORKSHEETS! I am sure you remember the dreadful thought of knowing that your math teacher was most certainly going to give you a worksheet to practice. I am requesting a variety of resources to create math centers in my room to not only give the students a more hands-on approach to the concept but to make their math experiences enjoyable.
I have requested a Common Core Math Centers set which covers a variety of concepts covered in the new Common Core curriculum.
These activities will be used to teach, practice and reinforce various skills in the classroom. I have also requested activities on CD Rom in order to integrate the use of technology into the classroom. In addition to the centers, I have requested a number of manipulatives and independent activities to teach and reinforce skills and foster their critical thinking ability.
Your support of this project will help my students now and for years to come receive hands-on experiences in math class. You will help eliminate the dreadful WORKSHEET that so many of us became accustomed to throughout our mathematical experiences. By supporting the use of manipulatives and centers in the math class, you are fostering the growth of critical thinkers and more productive citizens.
