Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom come from a wide variety of backgrounds. A limited few have every opportunity available to them outside of school, while many others only have opportunities and experiences that come from inside of the school walls. Some of the students speak little to no English but still enjoy coming to school to learn and make new friends. My classroom is a safe space for all students and I strive every day to make them feel loved and valued.
My students have a love for learning that pushes them to do their best every day.
They are sweet and caring and are always asking what they can do to help each other out. They check on each other when they are feeling down and they are always exchanging kind words. These students go above and beyond to make sure everyone is included and has a friend at school. They genuinely care for each other. My students are so appreciative of everything I do for them. Even on the toughest days, these children can make me smile and feel like I am doing a good job.
My Project
Morning time can often be one of the hardest parts of the day. Students are tired, some still in the process of waking up and their brains just aren't quite ready to take in lots of information. Most morning work includes worksheets to review previously learned content.
I want to give my students morning work that allows them to think, collaborate, create, and explore.
By not focusing on rigorous work first thing in the morning, my students will be able to wake their brains up so that we are ready to tackle the rest of the day. Through these morning bins, students will be learning valuable lessons such as creative problem solving, collaboration, and respect for their peers.
After unpacking, students will choose a morning bin they would like to work on while we wait for everyone to arrive, listen to morning announcements, and while I am checking everyone's folders. Kids do not get enough time to be kids anymore, so these morning bins will provide playtime while also teaching valuable lessons.
