My students are special because they live in a small, rural, forest community. They can look outside and see turkeys running on the grass, cows in the fields, squirrels in the trees, and birds nesting in our windows. Our students are lucky to live in a supportive community that is fairly small so they do not go unnoticed. Unfortunately, this community is impacted with poverty. Many parents are not working. They are not always able to seek a higher education and the jobs are scarce. Each year their needs increase. The needs of the students are many. What our students do have, is fresh air and beautiful scenery around them.
My Project
We had a school fire a year and a half ago. This is an opportunity to try some new ways to organize our classroom.
First, I am interested in expanding some flexible ways for my fidgeting students to sit.
I think these balls may be just the thing to help my movers and shakers. I will get rid of chairs if this is a success.
Next, The student bins will help organize student materials and take the place of a desk cubby. Organizing daily workbooks and journals can be a struggle. I am planning to keep their workbooks in these bins. They will be stored under the group table.
