My classroom is a revolving door. Students come in and out at various times of the day for a variety of needs. Each student has individual goals and my dream is for all students to meet and exceed their goals, along with becoming successful learners in their general education classroom.
Our school is a Title I school with a very diverse population of students.
Along with that diversity comes a large span of strengths and needs. I serve all grade levels at our school (Pre-K through 5th), so I see a variety of needs and learning styles on a daily basis in my classroom.
My Project
My students are 99% free and reduced lunch. Our school tries to supplement by sending snacks home for the weekend. However, this is not enough! There isn't a day that goes by that I don't have at least one student come to me hungry. I find anything I can to feed those hungry bellies, often by giving them my own lunch. I want to build a cupboard of snacks, so that all students have the same access to nutritional food options. Many of the foods I have selected for this project aren't your typical snack foods. Why? Simple, because they need more than just a pack of crackers or a bag of chips. These babies need food. I am requesting items that are all individually packaged so they can be taken home for evening snacks/meals for students who might not have anything at home.
Long days at school are already hard enough for young minds without having to endure it hungry!
