My students are a group of energetic first graders who come to school each day eager to learn. They attend a high poverty, Title I school in rural Georgia. Over 85% of my children live in poverty. Our elementary school is a low income, rural, poverty school.
Regardless of our socioeconomic status, these students are young, ambitious, and smart.
Despite their hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best.
They want to be in school because they want to learn as much as they can so they can be successful. I teach an amazing group of first graders who come to school each day with smiles on their faces. School is often their comfort place and provides food as well as stability.
My Project
My students need Clorox wipes to clean our tables each day to keep the germs away. My students need snacks to eat in the morning for breakfast, through out the day, and to take home at night to help them stay focused. Many of my students go without a snack through out the day and are hungry. It is very hard to concentrate when you're hungry. A snack would help the students to stay motivated during the day. A snack to take home would help them sleep better at night.
These are the essentials that many of my students go without.
My children and I would be very thankful for the opportunity to provide a snack when they are hungry. A little bit of food to fill their growling belly could go a long way in helping them be successful.
